Bakshi Transport Service is engaged in providing transport services for all walks of life, be it leisure or business trips. We also specialize in handling foreign tourists. Under the capable guidance of G.S. Sawhney and K.S. Sawhney, his son, the company has won several awards and accolades. Loved by their loyal customers, Bakshi Transport Service is also loved by the country, it seems, since Mr. K.S. Sawhney was invited for witnessing the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. What an honour! Recenty, Mr. R.S. Sawhney, S/o K.S. Sawhney has joined the family business after completing his Master Degree.
G.S. Sawhney was a contractor at three different army canteens during the years 1955 to 1967, simultaneously also running a successful transport business, which he started after procuring an HMV license in the year 1959. He drove a bus on the STA route of Delhi, under the name of M/S “Khalsa Transport Company”.
In the year 1968, he switched from the stage carriage business to the tourist trade business, thanks to the development of his already thriving transport services. He then started providing services such as excursions for schools and colleges, local sightseeing tours, wedding and party trips for local as well as outstation destinations, staff of MNCs, and more. He also started providing chartered buses for trips as well as buses for schools, under the name of M/S Bakshi Transport Service in the year 1974. Since then, the company has not looked back and, in fact, also started specializing in managing foreign tourists, group tours, and conference tours along with providing buses to various well-established educational institutions such as Spring Dales School, S.D. Public School, Apeejay Public School, and G.D. Goenka Public School. During the end of the year 1992, Bakshi Transport Service became a private limited firm and has been growing stronger and stronger with each passing day, creating for itself a niche in the travel and tourism industry.

Late Sardar Gurbachan Singh Sawhney

A visionary and pioneer in India’s tourist transport industry, Late Sardar Gurbachan Singh Sawhney devoted over six decades to enhancing Indian tourism through dedicated service, innovation, and leadership. Transitioning from a noted hockey player to a respected transport entrepreneur, he founded Khalsa Transport Company in 1959 and later established Bakshi Transport Service in 1974, with a focus on quality tourism mobility solutions.
Known for his relentless drive and administrative acumen, he played a pivotal role in shaping tariff structures with DOT and ITDC, introduced welfare schemes like PF & ESI for drivers in the 1980s, and was instrumental in securing All India Tourist Permits (AITP) to strengthen last-mile connectivity for inbound tourism.
As a member of key policy committees, including the Delhi STA and Bhure Lal Committee, he significantly influenced CNG transition policies and the implementation of circular tour permits to sustain operations during regulatory shifts.
Under his leadership, Bakshi Transport Service introduced luxury Volvo coaches, served global events like the IERD and YPO, and collaborated with the Ministry of Tourism to promote campaigns like Clean India and Incredible India.
His legacy includes:

Mr. Kanwarjit Singh Sawhney, Managing Director of Bakshi Transport Service Pvt. Ltd., has been a prominent force in India’s tourist transport industry since joining the family business in 1982. A graduate of Delhi University and an MBA in Tourism, he carries forward the pioneering legacy of his father, Late Sardar Gurbachan Singh Sawhney.
With over four decades of leadership, Mr. Sawhney has significantly expanded the company’s footprint in tourism, corporate mobility, educational institutions, and event transportation. Under his dynamic stewardship, Bakshi Transport Service has been recognized 12 times with the prestigious National Tourism Award by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India — including six consecutive years of excellence.
